Our main programmes abroad
Lungta's effort is to support Tibetans in Tibet, in exile and members of the Tibetan Buddhist community in Ladakh.
Helping to improve education in exile
More and more Tibetan children are getting modern education in schools and monasteries in Tibetan communities outside Tibet. However, there is a lack of funds to improve the teaching of modern subjects, to equip the schools with computers and books, etc. Therefore we started to support a monastery school in Diskit in Ladakh, India in 2002, and the school in Tiksey monastery in Ladakh in 2003.
The larger of the two monasteries, Tiksey, has about 100 monks, educating 40 students in its school. Diskit has some 60 monks and about 20 students. The schools have only very basic equipment. Therefore, to make the education more up-to-date, we donated a computer to each monastery and held computer skills and English language courses for the young monks. We are planning to go ahead with this project. In the next two years we are aiming to set up a school library in each monastery, complete with dictionaries, encyclopedias and English teaching materials.
We will also be very grateful if you wish to support our projects in Tiksey and Diskit monasteries in Ladakh. If you are able to donate a computer, English study materials etc. or financial support, please be so kind and contact us.
We will be very grateful for any support!
